Forensics: Be a detective!

Service Description

This Hands on Science class will focus on forensics. Learn about being a detective and the science behind forensics! This fun and interactive class is designed for curious kids! Each session will focus on a different type of aspect of forensic science and at the end kids will use the skills they have gained to "bag and tag" evidence just like a real forensic scientist. This class will cover Locard's Principle, the history of forensics, how to secure and process a crime scene, what chain of custody is, how to collect evidence, how to collect fingerprints, using a microscope to examine hair and fibers, blood and bodily fluid analysis, casting footprints, and more! We recommend students be mature enough to learn about how a crime is processed. While we will keep what we are studying age appropriate this can be a sensitive topic. Children must be at least 8yrs old and be able to read and write proficiently. Class will meet March 5, 19 & 26, as well as April 2, 9 & 16! We will not meet on March 12 due to the 4H Roundup! You can sign up for that on their website or by calling the extension office. Pre-Requisites: Children must be 8 by March 1, 2025 to participate. Fees: This class will meet for six sessions. Each lesson will build upon itself. Class fees are $90 per student for the whole six week term with a 15% sibling discount available. You cannot sign up for individual days. We are a small business and we have maximized our class space which means we only have a small space for parents to wait, but you are welcome to utilize it if you prefer!
