This lesson has everything you need for a wonder filled session about wild turkeys that incorporates being in nature while learning about one of the most iconic birds in America and the North American continent!! This is great for elementary aged kids but could easily be used for older or younger learners. This lesson has everything you need to facilitate it, but you can add in a fun activity with air dry clay which we have suggested inside the mini unit.
The idea for a nature academy series was inspired by the need for some hands on resources at my parents farm.
Each lesson is designed to take about 45 minutes but there are a lot of extras included to dive deeper. You could make this a whole day!
We have laid out beautiful activity suggestions, wondering questions and opportunities to pursue your own learning paths. You and your child(ren) or students will learn about wild turkeys and how they fit into the world while taking a stroll through nature, reading some beautiful books that are perfect for an outdoor class or a day in nature!
Along with the guided nature reflection and worksheets provided, I've suggested a few activities, such as the turkey nature craft, some vocabulary words, and a wild turkey fact sheet. I've also provided a letter T page depending on the needs of your learner. You can use all the pages included or just print and use what you need for your learners.
For those using this lesson in a classroom or in a nature class we’ve included a handout for children to take home to parents or caregivers who might want to dive deeper into the topic. If you use this lesson and enjoy it, please come back and review it or check out some of the other Nature Academy lessons available in our shop.
This unit was designed with a mixed age class in mind which is why you will find activities that would fit for K-6th grade
