🌿 Why Nature Academy?

​

The idea for Nature Academy was born out of a desire for hands-on, meaningful resources that help children learn about nature while being in nature.

We wanted something fun, flexible, and deeply connected to the fascinating world around us—something that would engage both kids and their learning partners.

Each unit is designed to take about 45 minutes once a week as a starting point. However, the flexible format means you can easily stretch it into two or three shorter sessions per week—whatever best suits your family’s rhythm.

Every unit offers a range of engaging materials that can be simplified or expanded depending on your learners’ needs. We've included beautiful activity suggestions, open-ended wondering questions, and plenty of opportunities to branch off into your own learning adventures.

Whether you're reading under a tree, exploring a forest path, or studying a puddle after the rain, you'll find this curriculum encourages deep connection and curiosity.

You won’t find every answer to every question here—and that’s by design. What you will find is an abundant buffet of ideas, facts, and inspiration to spark your child’s imagination and help you follow your own rabbit trails into the wide and wonderful world of nature study.

✏️ What's Inside Each Week

Each Nature Academy unit is built around a guided nature reflection and a nature journal prompt, which serve as the foundation for that week's exploration. From there, you’ll find a variety of thoughtfully designed resources to support and enrich your learning experience, including:

• Hands-on activity suggestions

• Vocabulary and fact sheets

• Handwriting practice pages

• Letter recognition sheets

• Creative extension ideas

We’ve included a wide range of materials so you can customize each week to fit your family’s unique needs, interests, and time. Use as much or as little as works for you—it's all about making nature study meaningful and manageable.

This curriculum is designed for a family style setting with a range of ages so there are portions that fit kids of all abilities.

This curriculum covers the items we are likely to find out in nature in the Southeast United States where we live, but it can be used anywhere.
