We've asked kids and parents alike to come up with these tips for creating a love of reading in your child and in your home. At the end check out some links to a few great Summer Reading programs and freebies!

1. Sign up for summer reading!
Summer reading is about to start in full force all across the country and a library can be the absolute best source of inspiration for budding readers and veteran readers alike! What an amazing gift that summer reading can provide for free. Many libraries offer incentives for kids to read as many books as possible which is a great motivator and it can inspire them to find a love of reading all year long. Along with incentives like the Prize Store, Summer Reading at your local library often has programs, classes and other ways to enrich your reading experience.
2. Put books in every single room of your home.
One great way to inspire your child to love book and be a reader is to provide them with the opportunities to read. Put books in their room, the living room, the car, even in the bathroom. A book can be a great way to pass the time when potty training or during a road trip.

3. Let your child see you reading!
If we want to raise readers then we have to be readers. It's as easy but also as hard as that. Life can be so busy but if we want our kids to love to read then we should lead by example. Share what you are reading with them and read the books they are interested along side them. Have conversations in the car about books. Take an interest in what they are reading and share your own perspective. It can be a great way to connect with your older child especially.
4. Try out the audio book!
The audio book or books on CD often gets a bad reputation, but it is just as beneficial to listen to a book as it is to read a physical copy. And some audio books are full theatrical productions with special voices and exciting background music. Audiobooks are a great way to get more great literature into your kids lives. We particularly love the audio version of the Hobbit and Harry Potter.
5. Give graphic novels a shot!
Once upon a time comic books were just for Marvel and DC fans but these days there are thousands of graphic novels that cover every topic imaginable. Some of our favorites are biographies and re-imaginings of beloved classics like Watership Down and Lord of the Rings.
