Tips for using a scavenger hunt in nature!

Use any scavenger hunt sheet that is available to you!

  • As you are getting ready to play nature detective, take a quick look at the scavenger hunt sheet or card and determine whether or not all the items on the list are available to you.

  • If you see something that is likely not on the list, note it, cross it off or make sure everyone knows that it might not be something you can see today.

  • Gamify this activity by setting a timer or have a friendly competition between siblings or friends.

  • For older kids, or kids with access to a camera, instead of checking things off the list, invite them to take a picture with each object they find.

  • If you have a child who struggles with the idea of competition scavenger hunts make great cooperative family adventures.

  • However you decide to utilize them, be sure to remember that a scavenger hunt like this one is a great tool to review those animals and other organisms that you are learning about!

  • Laminating or placing the sheet in a clear protective sheet is a great way to make it reusable or to help it last longer.

  • Scavenger hunts are really useful for road trips and waiting in line or waiting outdoors.
